FedEx has taken a further step towards improving healthcare logistics efficiency with the launch in October 2026 of an online portal enabling pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and clinical trial operators to book and manage temperature-controlled shipments digitally. The platform is available in 26 European markets, including Italy, and provides access to FedEx Temp-Assure Advantage. The service has been launched ahead of the year-end peak period, allowing customers to prepare for increased demand.
Customers can use the portal to register for the service, order pre-conditioned packaging, schedule shipments and manage returns. These processes have traditionally been complex and were previously handled exclusively through manual procedures. The portal supports domestic and intra-European shipments, excluding those classified as freight. In addition to Italy, it is available in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Spain and Switzerland.
Temp-Assure Advantage combines packaging qualified by the in-house FedEx Packaging Lab with the company's integrated European transport network. The service covers three temperature ranges: frozen products between –25°C and –15°C, refrigerated products between 2°C and 8°C, and controlled room-temperature products between 15°C and 25°C. According to FedEx, the packaging maintains the required temperature for more than 96 hours. This performance is achieved by combining vacuum insulation with phase-change materials (PCMs), while shipments are handled through CEIV Pharma-certified facilities using standardised processes designed to ensure control, visibility and compliance throughout the journey. The solution also includes a reusable packaging model, under which containers are collected, reconditioned and reused to reduce waste without compromising temperature-control standards.
FedEx links the launch to the growing demand for biological medicines, specialist pharmaceuticals and vaccines, whose effectiveness depends on strict temperature control. Toby Hay, Director of International Marketing at FedEx Europe, highlighted the evolution of pharmaceutical supply chains, which are becoming "increasingly global and focused on high-value, temperature-sensitive therapies". This is prompting healthcare companies to seek logistics partners capable of combining reliability, regulatory compliance and easy access to services.
