Lightweight and digital semi-trailers from the Netherlands

At IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Dutch manufacturers D-Tec, Kraker and Royal Burgers exhibited lighter container chassis, specialised tankers, moving-floor trailers with telemetry and double-deck semi-trailers. All three manufacturers are distributed in Italy by Multitrax, a Cremona-based company owned by brothers Alberto and Andrea Maggi. At D-Tec, weight reduction is the main focus. The new CC 2030 3 Fuk features a chassis with a main beam that is 55 mm taller, robotic welding, high-quality steel and axle assemblies from Valx, Saf or Bpw. According to the manufacturer, this combination reduces tare weight by around 150 kg compared with the segment average. The model is initially intended for the British market, with its European launch scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The extendable Flexitrailer FT-LS-S focuses on operational flexibility, as its name suggests. This container chassis also uses a single-beam design, with front and rear extensions, and can carry 20, 30 and 40-foot containers, tank containers and 45-foot units. Tare weight starts at 3,780 kg, with the manufacturer claiming a weight advantage of around 300 kg over comparable container chassis. Lower weight is also relevant when using battery-electric tractor units, where the weight of the vehicle combination directly affects range.

D-Tec also brought the FV-Vac to Hanover, a 29.5 cubic metre tanker for liquid by-products, equipped with a vacuum pump and turntable steering axles. The first and third axles steer, improving manoeuvrability and reducing tyre wear. The manufacturer reports tyre life of up to 300,000 km and estimated annual savings of around €1,800 compared with a configuration without a steering system.

Kraker’s approach to efficiency centres on data availability. The K-Force moving-floor trailer was displayed in a configuration exposing its structure, bolted assembly system and combination of aluminium and steel reinforcements. The Moving Smart system uses sensors to monitor the floor’s operating parameters and detect slat wear to an accuracy of 0.1 mm. This information helps schedule maintenance and reduce breakdowns and downtime.

Royal Burgers presented Dock to Dock, developed with Emons Group. Loading takes place from the loading dock, using height-adjustable internal decks to move Euro pallets and roll cages across the semi-trailer’s two levels. The Smart System platform interfaces with the power supply, sensors and semi-trailer functions, providing real-time information on the condition of the vehicle and its components to help anticipate maintenance needs and reduce downtime. The display also included the Drawbar Double Deck and the City Double Deck, the latter intended for urban distribution and last-mile deliveries.
