Hupac officially opened its first directly operated terminal in Spain and its eleventh in Europe on 19 October 2026. The facility, named Combiconnect Barcelona, is operated through a temporary consortium between the Swiss intermodal transport company and Tpnova and is located in La Llagosta, close to the Port of Barcelona. Although officially inaugurated in October, the terminal has been operational since January 2026 as part of Hupac's network linking the Iberian Peninsula with major European markets. The facility has four 700-metre tracks served by two gantry cranes, providing a maximum capacity of 130,000 loading units. Both the tracks and rail access are equipped for standard European gauge and the wider Iberian gauge, allowing shipments to be transferred between the two using the cranes.
Within Spain, the terminal handles connections with Madrid, Valencia and Seville. To the north and west, the network runs through Antwerp, Duisburg and Busto Arsizio, extending to southern Italy and Scandinavia. To the east, it includes Schwarzheide, Buna, Warsaw, Vienna, Budapest, Ploiești (Bucharest) and Curtici, with the prospect of future connections to the Far East. Hupac Group CEO Britta Weber described the official opening as an important step in the company's development strategy in Spain and Europe, calling the terminal the platform on which Hupac intends to achieve "further growth in the coming years". Chairman Hans-Jörg Bertschi noted that Spain is "one of Europe's most dynamic economies", but that only a small proportion of goods are currently transported by rail, both for imports and exports, adding: "We want to change this situation." Tpnova, part of the Spanish Transportes Portuarios group, operates in rail transport and intermodal logistics and has experience in terminal management.
