Over the Immaculate Conception weekend in 2025, Anas forecasts around 31.4 million vehicle movements across its road and motorway Italian network. According to the company, traffic will mainly increase along routes towards mountain destinations, provincial capitals and commercial areas, driven by travel to Christmas markets and pre-holiday shopping. On Friday 5 and Saturday 6 December, flows heading south towards provincial destinations are expected to be most affected, particularly along the Adriatic, Tyrrhenian and Ionian corridors, as well as exits from major urban areas. Higher volumes are anticipated on the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo, the 106 Jonica and 18 Tirrena Inferiore state roads, the A19 Palermo–Catania and A29 Palermo–Mazara del Vallo motorways, and Sardinia’s 131 Carlo Felice state road.
In Lazio, increased traffic is expected on the 148 Pontina, which together with the 7 Appia forms a key axis between Rome and southern Lazio. Among interregional routes, Anas highlights the E45, which crosses Umbria, Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna linking the north-east to central Italy, as well as the 1 Aurelia and 16 Adriatica state roads. In northern Italy, higher traffic is forecast on the RA13 and RA14 motorway links in Friuli-Venezia Giulia towards border crossings, on the 36 del Lago di Como e dello Spluga in Lombardy, the 45 di Val Trebbia in Liguria, the 26 in the Aosta Valley and the 309 Romea between Emilia-Romagna and Veneto. In Veneto, an increase is also expected on the 51 di Alemagna, a key route to mountain areas.
During this long weekend, industrial vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will be subject to two driving bans, except for the usual exemptions. On Sunday 7 December and Monday 8 December, restrictions will apply from 9:00 to 12:00. The other weekday bans in December fall on Thursday 25 and Friday 26, also from 9:00 to 12:00.
