In fifteen minutes, a medical shipment comprising blood bags and biological samples travelled between Santa Maria delle Grazie Hospital in Pozzuoli and Casamicciola Hospital on the island of Ischia, thanks to a FlyingBasket drone. This occurred on 18 February 2025 as part of the Aetos project developed by Unmanned4you in collaboration with FlyingBasket, aiming to innovate medical logistics through the use of drones. Four successful flights were conducted on the day. These aircraft can cover a distance of 17 kilometres in just fifteen minutes, carrying loads of up to five kilograms.
FlyingBasket, founded in 2015 in Bolzano by brothers Moritz and Matthias Moroder, has become a global operator in the design and development of cargo drones for logistics. The company relies on an international team of twenty-two employees and obtained the Luc (Light Uas operator Certificate) certification from Enac in 2024, allowing it to autonomously conduct its missions.
Unmanned4you, a collaborator on the project, specialises in innovation in the transport and delivery sector, as well as in surveillance, search and rescue, and environmental monitoring activities. The company is recognised by Enac and collaborates with major national and international industry associations, including the Campania Aerospace Technological District and the Drones and Advanced Air Mobility Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano. Valeria Fascione, Councillor for Research, Innovation and Start-ups of the Campania Region, emphasised the importance of this initiative: "It is a very important day, a successfully completed test. We are still in a phase of research and experimentation, but it is encouraging to see how these solutions are evolving to become increasingly functional and at the service of citizens and patients."
