Lufthansa Cargo is taking a further step towards the digitalisation of air freight operations with the announcement of a new virtual reality-based training programme designed specifically for cargo supervisors. The initiative, which will officially begin with the release of its first module in October 2025, aims to provide realistic and engaging preparation. Using virtual reality, participants will be able to train within a fully immersive digital environment that faithfully replicates operational scenarios, safety procedures and communication methods. This approach not only enhances practical understanding of the processes involved but also accelerates skill acquisition by offering a higher level of focus and interactivity than traditional training methods.
Among the main advantages of virtual reality training, the German carrier highlights the ability to carry out sessions at any time without disrupting operational activities, as well as the potential to reduce costs associated with physical simulations or participant travel. Virtual reality is also an environmentally sustainable solution, as the reduced need for materials and physical infrastructure lowers the environmental impact while maintaining high and consistent educational standards.
Lufthansa Cargo is among the first players in the air freight industry to adopt this technology for staff training, underlining its commitment to staying ahead of sector trends through advanced digital tools. This innovative approach to training represents a key element in the German carrier’s broader digitalisation strategy, which already includes the implementation of intelligent solutions for optimising logistics processes.
