After eighteen months of intense negotiations and strategic planning, the Finsea Group announced on 5 february 2025 the acquisition of ArcelorMittal's italian logistics division for finished products. This operation led to the birth of Finsea Steel, a new integrated logistics entity in the italian steel sector. The new company is already operational as the general agent in Italy for all vessels chartered by ArcelorMittal. The primary italian ports involved include La Spezia, Marina di Carrara, Catania, Ortona, Piombino, Ravenna, Salerno, Savona, Cagliari and Gaeta.
Beyond port operations management, Finsea Steel will coordinate land transport and international shipments, further strengthening the Finsea Group's presence in integrated logistics. The company explains that this global approach will enable greater efficiency in the steel supply chain, reducing operational times and costs. An important element of the new strategy is the collaboration with Aperam, a leading stainless steel production company. Finsea Steel will manage goods distribution from service centres in Podenzano (Piacenza) and Massalengo (Lodi), ensuring a capillary and reliable network.
"The creation of Finsea Steel represents a strategic step in the group's overall vision," stated Aldo Negri, chief executive of the Finsea Group. "Through this acquisition, we expand our professionalism dedicated to the steel industry, the break bulk and bulk market, not only looking towards the sea, but primarily broadening our land logistics and transport services." Finsea Steel will operate under the official Finsea Group brand, becoming an integral part of the Land Transport Business Unit, led by Filippo Gallo. The acquisition has brought ten new professionals and opened two new offices in Milan and Piombino. These developments not only highlight the group's continuous growth but also confirm its commitment to diversifying traditional activities, focusing on innovation and specialisation.
