On 23 January 2025, Brebemi revealed the latest developments in its Drone Asset and Traffic Monitoring Project, a programme structured into three operational phases to monitor traffic along the Italian A35 motorway connecting Milan and Brescia.  The first phase, launched in October 2024, involved an initial trial using drones piloted on-site by specialised personnel. During this phase, a software platform was installed at Brebemi’s Control Centre to manage real-time video streams.

The second phase introduced remote drone operation via a dedicated Control Centre, equipped with advanced sensors for data and video transmission. By January 2025, the system had entered its most advanced stage: fully automated drone operations. Drones now take off and land autonomously from dedicated hangars, enabling scheduled missions and rapid responses to emergencies, all centrally managed from the Control Centre.

Brebemi's drones operate at a maximum altitude of 120 metres, covering both carriageways of the A35 at pre-determined times agreed upon with the relevant authorities. This innovative system allows Brebemi’s technicians to monitor, in real time, the condition of the road surface, noise barriers, and fencing. It also detects traffic jams, stationary vehicles, or obstacles on the carriageway. Brebemi explained that live images transmitted by the drones to the Control Centre improve incident management, enabling swift intervention to address any issues along the motorway. This advanced technology not only enhances traffic flow but also ensures greater safety and efficiency across the A35.
