At the end of October, the vessel Lider Trabzon is scheduled to arrive at the Reefer Terminal in Vado Ligure, the first of three ships employed by Blue Lines for the new route to the Libyan port of Misurata. The service, dedicated to the transport of rolling cargo, will operate every twenty days and will be handled with mixed lo–lo and ro–ro vessels, measuring between 129.10 and 147 metres, operating on the terminal’s dedicated 200-metre quay.
The new service forms part of Reefer Terminal’s traffic diversification strategy, which is extending its operations beyond the traditional fruit and vegetable segment. “The start of this connection dedicated to rolling cargo highlights the terminal’s flexibility in handling different types of goods, from fruit to out-of-gauge cargo, from dry containers to vehicles,” explained Santi Casciano, CEO of Vado Gateway and Reefer Terminal.
Casciano added that the aim is to further increase rolling cargo volumes both for export and import, making the most of dedicated infrastructure: a 200-metre quay and a car park with capacity for 800 vehicles. The terminal, he noted, continues to maintain its core focus on the fruit and vegetable sector, in which it is a Mediterranean leader. Today, Reefer Terminal is the main hub for fruit logistics in the Mediterranean basin, with a refrigerated warehouse of over 24,000 square metres located just 40 metres from the quay and equipped with 14 temperature-controlled cells.
