The first Siemens eMobility Sicharge Flex charging system installed at a public facility entered service on 29 September 2026 at the OMV service station in Kufstein, in the Austrian Tyrol, along the route linking Germany and Italy via the Brenner Pass. The site initially features six DC charging points: four for passenger cars and two for heavy-duty vehicles, each with a maximum charging power of 400 kW. A second phase will add another four charging points in Kufstein for heavy-duty vehicles, delivering between 600 and 1,200 kW through the Megawatt Charging System (MCS). With this configuration, Siemens and OMV say that an electric vehicle equipped with a 620 kWh battery can charge from 20% to 80% in around 45 minutes. Available power is dynamically distributed among connected vehicles according to the actual requirements of each one.
Siemens unveiled Sicharge Flex in October 2025, with OMV becoming its first customer. It is a decentralised and modular system, with total configurable power ranging from 480 kW to 1.68 MW, designed for both company depots and public charging stations and scalable according to demand at each site. Kufstein was chosen because of the service area’s location on one of Europe’s busiest road freight corridors. The station has been designed with drivers in mind and, alongside the OMV eMotion charging points, offers showers, restaurants and washing machines, allowing drivers to make practical use of the mandatory 45-minute break required after four and a half hours of driving.
