Among the innovations presented by Schmitz Cargobull at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover is Ingenios, a new chassis platform developed for transport applications with a gross vehicle combination weight of up to 44 tonnes. The German manufacturer designed the new chassis to increase load capacity while keeping unladen weight down and, at the same time, provide a more robust, durable and easily repairable structure. Its main feature is the load floor capacity, which reaches 8,000 kg as standard, compared with 7,100 kg for the previous standard Modulos chassis. Compared with the previous Mega chassis, Ingenios reduces unladen weight by around 100 kg.
The higher payload capacity is combined with a structure designed to withstand the most demanding operating conditions. Ingenios is designed for loading operations with forklifts weighing up to 12 tonnes, while the rear section has enhanced protection against deformation and impacts. To achieve these results, Schmitz Cargobull has developed a new cross-member design intended to improve load absorption across the floor and reduce the number of joints at floor level. The longitudinal members also feature a new geometry, with a continuous upper flange that increases bending resistance and reduces chassis deformation under load.
The design has also been developed to make maintenance and repair work easier. Production techniques include riveting, clinching and modular joining systems, creating a robust structure while allowing individual damaged components to be replaced separately. The aim is to reduce repair times and costs and minimise semi-trailer downtime. Another feature is corrosion protection: the chassis is fully galvanised and Schmitz Cargobull offers a ten-year warranty against rust perforation.
Another area on which the German manufacturer has focused Ingenios development is making use of the available space within the four-metre overall height limit. In the Mega configuration, the chassis has a standard neck height of just 80 mm, while in the Universal version this rises to 115 mm. Turning clearance has also been increased. On the Mega chassis, it meets the requirements of ISO 1726-2 and can be increased by a further 100 mm on request. On the Mega DB, the greater turning clearance is available as standard. This improves compatibility with different types of tractor unit and provides greater flexibility in configuring the vehicle combination.
