An agreement was signed in Rome on 22 April 2026 between FS Logistix, F2i Sgr and Fhp Group for the entry of the FS Group company into the capital of Cfi Compagnia Ferroviaria Italiana. The deal provides for a 30% stake and forms part of an industrial plan aimed at strengthening intermodal rail freight transport, improving operational efficiency and enhancing service capacity across the rail logistics chain. According to the parties, the agreement is intended to develop industrial synergies between operators already active in rail and port logistics. The goal is to expand service coverage and make rail offerings more competitive compared with road transport, in line with European objectives on modal shift, energy efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions reduction.
FS Logistix’s entry into Cfi, a company controlled by Fhp Group and active as a railway undertaking, will enable the integration of expertise and assets, with expected benefits for service planning and responsiveness to market demand. Sabrina De Filippis, chief executive of FS Logistix, said the deal represents “a fundamental building block” for the company’s growth strategy in intermodal logistics, with the aim of expanding operational capacity and improving service efficiency. Silvio Damagini, chief executive of Mercitalia Rail, noted that the move into Cfi will allow greater effectiveness in service planning and in the development of intermodality, with benefits for the entire rail freight sector. Completion of the transaction remains subject to approval by the relevant regulatory authorities.
F2i Sgr frames the deal within a broader strategy to consolidate integrated logistics. Chief executive Renato Ravanelli said the agreement between the FS Group and F2i could help make services more efficient and competitive, supporting the growth of Fhp as a pan-European logistics operator and advancing EU modal shift targets for 2030. Fhp Group plays a central role in building an integrated port-rail platform. The company, controlled by F2i, has strengthened its presence in recent years through the integration of Cfi and Lotras in 2025 and the acquisition of control of additional port terminals in Savona and Torre Annunziata. Through these moves, the group now manages ten terminals across Italy and four intermodal hubs, handling around 10 million tonnes of freight per year and running more than 6 million rail kilometres across Europe.
