Speculation about a potential sale of Iveco surfaces periodically, but up to now such rumours have not materialised, as the company has remained under the control of the Agnelli family through Exor. The latest report by Reuters suggests that talks are currently underway with three possible acquirers, one of which is Tata Motors. Following publication of the news, Iveco’s share price on the US over-the-counter market rose by nine percent. The Defence Vehicles division, which specialises in military transport, is not included in the negotiations; a separate bidding process is already ongoing for that unit, with contenders including Leonardo-Rheinmetall, KNDS, CSG and Indra.
Iveco Group was spun off from CNH Industrial in 2022, and even then the prospect of a sale was under discussion. The company generates over €15 billion in revenue and employs 36,000 people, 14,000 of whom are based in Italy. Its core business – focused on industrial vehicles, buses and powertrains – is struggling due to a weak European market, while the Defence division reported 2024 revenues of €1.133 billion, a 15 percent increase on the previous year, with a double-digit operating margin.
