A new sea route for containers will be opened on May 13, 2024 by the Turkish company Medkon Lines in the eastern Mediterranean, between Italy, Egypt and Israel.The new maritime route will see the container ship Ankara, with a capacity of 1,134 TEU, operating biweekly. Seaway Agency will serve as the agent for the service in Italy. Luigi Foglio, CEO of Seaway Agency, commented on the launch: "The port of Ravenna has historically been a hub for trade with the markets of the Eastern Mediterranean, a strategic area for Medkon Lines which has long considered it a core market. Therefore, we believe that the activation of this new service offers excellent opportunities for both the local territory and the company's presence in Italy, following the opening of the Turkey-Tunisia Service (Tst) at the port of Taranto." The key products targeted by the Turkish company include food, pharmaceuticals, clothing, and automotive goods.
