The third annual edition of the Truck&Bus roadside inspection campaign organised by the Roadpol network of traffic police forces will take place across several European countries, including Italy, from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 November 2025. This will be the final campaign of 2025, but Roadpol has already announced the 2026 calendar: the three inspection weeks are scheduled for 9–15 February, 4–10 May and 16–22 November. The checks will focus on road safety and compliance among commercial vehicles and buses. Officers will pay particular attention to dangerous practices such as overloading, breaches of driving and rest time regulations, and technical defects that compromise safety.
Data from the campaign carried out in May 2025 show that the most common violation concerned driving and rest times. In many cases, drivers failed to take mandatory breaks, exceeded driving limits, or spent their weekly rest periods in the cab – a practice banned under EU law. Inspectors also uncovered numerous cases of tampered tachographs, devices designed to ensure traceability of working hours.
Roadpol also runs international training courses for enforcement officers on tachograph inspection. In October, a session was held on detecting tampering in first- and second-generation smart tachographs, attended by seventeen enforcement officials from Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, Austria, Latvia, Romania, Ireland and Croatia. The group also included two representatives from the European Labour Authority.
