Trade flows between the two countries now benefit from a new low-impact service, the result of a partnership that has required investment in Huckepack intermodal trailers. The route begins with a road leg from Neill & Brown’s headquarters in Hessle to the port of Hull, where the trailers are shipped by ferry to Zeebrugge. From there, they are loaded onto freight trains bound for Italy, where Sogedim takes over operations.
Neill & Brown has offered daily scheduled links with Italy for years, but the introduction of the rail leg now makes it possible to provide a lower-carbon alternative. According to Carl Andrew, logistics director at Neill & Brown, the collaboration with Sogedim represents “a significant investment in an efficient and reliable transport model for one of our most in-demand destinations.” In the UK, Neill & Brown – which has been active in the transport business for more than a century – operates a network of warehouses in the Hull and Humber area, supported by in-house customs and documentation services. Its portfolio is completed by global sea and air freight forwarding, the handling of oversized loads, and pallet distribution across the UK.
