The trailer manufacturer Berger ecotrail introduced the new ecoChamp LTO lightweight curtain-sided semi-trailer at the beginning of 2025. Designed specifically for beverage transport, it increases payload capacity, thereby reducing the number of trips required for the same volume of deliveries. Its reduced tare weight also makes it ideal for coupling with electric road tractors. The new semi-trailer stands out for its unladen weight starting from 4.7 tonnes. The improved version features a shorter wheelbase, allowing for better load distribution without overloading the tractor unit’s drive axle.
One of the key features of Berger's design is the use of the Reuleaux triangle in the semi-trailer’s structure. This approach enables the removal of a significant amount of material from the L-beam without compromising the vehicle’s strength and stability. As a result, the unladen weight is reduced by 1.5 tonnes. The semi-trailer is certified for transporting beverages, whether in palletised crates or kegs, in compliance with Din en 12642 xl code, Din en 12195-1, and Vdi 2700 regulations.
These certifications ensure safety and reliability when transporting bulk goods. Additionally, the vehicle can be equipped with Schmitz cargobull’s optional power curtain system, which eliminates the need for support slats thanks to integrated reinforcements, thereby streamlining and accelerating loading and unloading operations. The ecochamp lto is fitted with the Trailerconnect telematics system, which includes tyre pressure monitoring with an automatic localisation function. This technology provides continuous oversight of the vehicle’s condition, enhancing both safety and operational efficiency.
