On 29 July 2025, Amazon officially introduced same-day deliveries in Milan using electric two-wheeled vehicles, marking a European debut. It is the first time that the Same Day service is carried out using micromobility vehicles. The trial was made possible thanks to Amazon’s urban micromobility hub, which was set up in 2022. All same-day deliveries within Milan’s Area C – the controlled traffic zone in the city centre – will now be handled exclusively by zero-emission electric cargo scooters.
The innovation goes beyond Area C. Amazon has announced that the service will be extended to other districts of Milan where traffic restrictions are in place. Among these are the Navigli area and Corso Buenos Aires. The Navigli, known for their narrow streets and dense mix of commercial and residential activity, present numerous challenges for traditional vans in terms of manoeuvring and parking. A similar situation exists along Corso Buenos Aires, one of the city’s main commercial thoroughfares, which is frequently congested and subject to strict parking regulations.
The vehicles used include electric cargo scooters and cargo bikes, ideal tools for ensuring swift deliveries in complex urban environments. Amazon works with numerous delivery companies across Italy. All drivers – including those employed for the new electric services – are hired under level G1 of the National Collective Labour Agreement for Transport and Logistics. If the project proves successful, Amazon states that it is likely to be rolled out soon in other European cities.
