Sany displayed the e263 4x2 battery-electric tractor unit at IAA Transportation 2026, marking the Chinese manufacturer’s entry into the European long-haul commercial vehicle market. At its stand in Germany, Sany also showed other battery-electric vehicles for construction, logistics and municipal services. Deliveries of the e263 had originally been announced for the first quarter of 2026 but started later, with the first vehicles operating in Germany since the spring. The rollout begins with the standard 4x2 tractor unit, while chassis cabs are expected by the end of 2026, alongside an extension of the electric chassis already tested in the construction segment.
The e263 tractor unit is equipped with a 636 kWh LFP battery based on an 800-volt architecture, and the manufacturer claims a range of more than 500 kilometres at a gross combination weight of 42 tonnes. The twin-motor electric axle, developed in-house by Sany, delivers 420 kW of continuous power and 730 kW at peak, with continuous torque of 1,000 Nm and up to 1,760 Nm. DC charging using the CCS standard reaches 400 kW, with provision for the future Megawatt Charging System. Its 10.9-tonne unladen weight improves payload capacity, according to the manufacturer, while dimensions of 6.64 x 2.54 x 3.87 metres make it suitable for European roads. Three power take-off options are available. The mPTO is a separate 45 kW electric motor that powers hydraulic or mechanical equipment even while the vehicle is moving, for example on mixer trailers, while the gPTO, connected to the transmission, provides up to 210 kW for tipping, moving-floor or silo semi-trailers. The ePTO supplies DC or AC power to refrigerated trailers. In terms of safety, the driver assistance systems meet GSR2 requirements and, according to Sany, several features go beyond the legal requirements.
The e263 builds on the group’s experience in electric vehicles: Sany has more than 40,000 battery-electric commercial vehicles in operation worldwide and ranked at the top of China’s electric commercial vehicle market from 2021 to 2024. In Europe, the 408P Iontron electric concrete mixer, developed with Putzmeister, is already in operation. It has a 350 kWh battery and a range of 180 kilometres and is being used in Norway, Iceland, France, Spain and Germany.
Sany’s European strategy rests on two pillars. The first is Putzmeister, the German concrete pump manufacturer acquired in 2012 by Sany and the Citic PE fund for a total of €360 million, of which Sany paid €324 million for a 90% stake. Putzmeister brings production facilities in Bedburg and Aichtal and an established local industrial presence, adapts the vehicles to European requirements and manages the spare parts warehouse in Germany. The second pillar is Alltrucks, the pan-European workshop network founded by Bosch, Knorr-Bremse and ZF, which provides access to more than 700 service centres in 13 countries, with 24-hour technical assistance, telematics diagnostics and service contracts of up to ten years. Sany has not disclosed pricing for the e263 and says the investment will be only slightly higher than for a comparable diesel model, while offering the best total cost of ownership among electric vehicles available in Europe and a shorter payback period. The package also includes spare parts managed by Putzmeister in Germany, 24-hour roadside assistance, telematics and remote diagnostics.
