Another major container terminal has come under the control of a shipping company. This time, it is the Atlantique terminal at the port of Le Havre, which has been secured by German shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd. The acquisition was carried out through its terminal operator subsidiary, Hanseatic Global Terminals, which purchased a 60% stake in Cnmp Lh from Seafrigo Group, the company that manages the terminal. Seafrigo Group, a specialist in temperature-controlled food logistics, retains the remaining 40%. Hanseatic Global Terminals, headquartered in Rotterdam, currently holds stakes in 21 port terminals across 12 countries. In Italy, it has a presence in the Genoa Port Terminal through its partnership with Spinelli.
Le Havre ranks among Europe’s top ten ports and is France’s primary maritime hub, handling an annual traffic of 3.1 million teu, an increase of 18.7% compared to the previous year. It is part of the Horopa Port system, which also includes the ports of Rouen and Paris. Two other container terminals operate at the port of Le Havre, both managed by Terminal Investment Limited, a subsidiary of Msc: Terminal de Normandie and Terminal Porte Océane. These facilities are undergoing an expansion project set to boost their capacity from 1.3 million to 4.5 million teu by 2028.
