PSA Padova outlined its development plans for the Padua intermodal terminal at Green Expo Logistic 2026. Daniele Marchiori, managing director of the company formed on 25 June 2026 through a partnership between PSA Intermodal Italy, Logtainer and Interporto di Padova, presented the plans during an event entitled "PSA Padova, a crossroads between two seas". The strategy centres on developing intermodal connections between Padua and ports on the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian coasts. Marchiori began by pointing out that the area between Padua and Venice generates around 1.5 million containers a year, with some of this traffic moving along routes linking Padua to Venice and the Tyrrhenian Sea. PSA believes the Padua terminal can help connect these flows to international markets through ports on both sides of the Italian peninsula. "The ability to connect different markets is a strength of PSA's Node-to-Network strategy," Marchiori explained, adding that the aim is to provide businesses with an increasingly integrated intermodal service.
PSA Italy operates the PSA Genova Pra', PSA Sech and PSA Venice-Vecon maritime terminals, which, according to the company, handle around 25% of Italy's seaborne import and export container traffic. Bringing the Padua terminal into the group strengthens connections between markets and industrial areas in northern Italy. The development programme will begin in 2027, with plans to introduce PSA's operating practices at the terminal and identify potential improvements in operational management and environmental performance. Marchiori stressed that the terminal would remain open to all operators, regardless of their commercial relationships with PSA. He considers this particularly important as vertical integration increases across the logistics sector: "In a market characterised by increasing vertical integration, the terminal's commercial independence represents added value for all businesses seeking flexible logistics solutions that are not tied to a single operator."
