Terminal Darsena Toscana, a terminal operator under the control of Grimaldi, has declared its intention to play a central role in the future Darsena Europa terminal at the port of Livorno. The company has formally submitted an application to the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Settentrionale (Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority) to obtain a concession for managing 50 per cent of the new facility. The move was announced by the Authority’s special commissioner, Luciano Guerrieri, following the 22 April 2025 meeting of the Management Committee, which approved the final financial report and the annual report of the Authority.
The request put forward by Terminal Darsena Toscana goes beyond simply participating in the future Darsena Europa. It is accompanied by a broader proposal to reorganise the areas and quays currently under concession. Alongside its application, the company has requested a modification of its existing state concession. The proposal involves the return of 150,000 square metres of land and 492 linear metres of quay, in exchange for acquiring 194,000 square metres and 600 linear metres of quay within the Darsena Europa terminal area. This spatial redistribution reflects a functional redesign of terminal operations, aimed at improving operational flows and enhancing the port’s competitiveness.
The industrial plan underpinning TDT’s application also includes significant investments, which form the basis for the company’s request to extend the duration of its current concession. The proposed extension, the extent of which will be assessed by the port authority, is intended to ensure a time frame that aligns with the planned interventions, while also providing managerial stability and an adequate return on the investments foreseen.
