On 2 September 2025 FS Logistix confirmed it had signed a deal with Belgian rail operator Lineas to jointly manage the Antwerp Mainhub terminal through a newly established company named Modalink. The facility handles around one and a half million tonnes of freight every year and coordinates the movement of 2,500 trains. FS Logistix has taken a 30% stake in the new venture, with the option of increasing its shareholding up to 49%. The agreement extends beyond the terminal itself, covering intermodal last-mile services between the port and surrounding areas.
The arrangement also provides for the transfer of the commercial services currently operated by Lineas on the Antwerp-Milan route to Mercitalia Intermodal, while traction will remain under Lineas’ responsibility. According to the FS Group, the move is aligned with its 2025–2029 industrial plan. Chief executive officer Stefano Antonio Donnarumma emphasised that the Belgian hub makes it possible to strengthen intermodal potential along the north–south axis while at the same time boosting east–west routes. He stated: “This operation reflects the Group’s international outlook and its renewed approach to industrial integration, with the aim of becoming a leading player in the sustainable and integrated logistics market in Europe.”
From the Belgian side, the initiative has been welcomed as an opportunity to further consolidate Antwerp’s role in the European logistics landscape. “With the launch of Modalink we are taking a bold step towards a more integrated and sustainable European logistics network,” commented Lineas CEO Erik van Ockenburg, highlighting how the partnership will improve last-mile operations and strengthen north–south rail corridors. He added: “By joining forces with FS Logistix, we are laying the foundations for modular and flexible terminal solutions capable of meeting the growing demand for efficient, low-emission freight transport.”
