On 4 February 2024, DKV Mobility announced the completion of the acquisition of a majority stake in Smartlab Innovationsgesellschaft, a German company specialising in the management of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. With this transaction, DKV Mobility strengthens its commitment to the transition towards sustainable mobility by expanding its charging network and improving service accessibility for users. The two companies signed the acquisition agreement in November 2024, and after obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals, the transaction has now been officially concluded.
Founded in Aachen in 2010, Smartlab is a significant operator in the electric mobility sector in Germany. It manages one of the country's largest public charging networks, with over 27,000 connected charging points. Among the main platforms under its control are ladenetz.de and ladebusiness, which coordinate a cooperative network with over 275 municipal energy providers and more than two hundred companies from various sectors. Sven Mehringer, Managing Director Energy & Vehicle Services at DKV Mobility, commented on the operation, highlighting the strategic value of the collaboration: "With the successful completion of the transaction, we can now work with the other shareholders to drive the development and growth of Smartlab. As partners, we will complement each other strategically, learn from one another, and thus position ourselves optimally for sustainable and long-term success."
