Contship Group is strengthening its container road haulage capacity with the addition of ten new tractor units to the fleet of its subsidiary DriveMybox. The group announced the move on 10 June 2026, saying the vehicles would enter service by the first half of the month and bring the total number of company-owned vehicles to 70. The new trucks will operate on the main domestic routes linking Italian ports with inland logistics nodes in northern Italy, but may also be used for terminal-related activities connected to the group’s intermodal network, complementing rail transport and operations at terminals and logistics platforms.
The decision to increase the number of company-owned tractor units forms part of an operating model that combines in-house vehicles with third-party carriers. DriveMybox coordinates an overall network of around 350 industrial vehicles, operating mainly in northern and central Italy. The proprietary fleet gives the company more direct control over scheduling, driver deployment and service levels, while its network of external suppliers allows capacity to be adjusted in line with volume changes and demand peaks.
The ten new tractor units are Renault Trucks vehicles compliant with the Euro VI standard and include systems designed to reduce fuel consumption, limit emissions and support drivers during the various operating phases, including on-board fuel-saving systems and new-generation automated gearboxes. In terms of safety, the new vehicles are equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, or ADAS, compliant with the European GSR regulation. The equipment includes the ISA intelligent speed assistance system, which supports compliance with speed limits along the route, as well as front radar and perimeter cameras.
Radar and cameras are particularly important components for the work carried out by these vehicles. In terminals and intermodal nodes, tractor units, semi-trailers, containers, handling equipment and personnel operate in the same spaces, and the availability of assistance systems reduces risks linked to blind spots and the proximity of obstacles. The investment also covers drivers’ working conditions.
"The investment in the new vehicles represents a further step in the development of road transport activities, a strategic component of the Group’s integrated offering and closely connected to terminal and intermodal activities," said Tommaso Ferrario, general manager of DriveMybox. According to Ferrario, greater availability of in-house vehicles allows the company to respond more flexibly to market requests, using driving technologies capable of supporting drivers’ work. Cristiano Pieragnolo, commercial director of Contship, highlighted the role of the network formed by the company fleet and partner operators. "This system allows us to guarantee operational continuity, flexibility in managing flows and a more efficient response to demand peaks, while at the same time maintaining direct oversight of service quality."
The strengthening of the fleet is accompanied by a review of the internal organisation. In May, Contship launched an integration process that brought road transport operations together within a single dedicated structure, with the aim of improving resource coordination, service planning and speed of response to customer requests. Centralisation may also facilitate the allocation of vehicles across different routes and coordination with the Group’s terminal and rail activities.
