Thanks to the early indication of the 2026 calendar of traffic bans for heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes – which has not yet been published in the Italian Official Gazette – it is already possible to determine the non-circulation days in Italy during the Christmas, New Year and Epiphany holidays between 25 December 2025 and 6 January 2026. As the holidays fall midweek, the number of restricted days is relatively high, with seven bans over a thirteen-day period.
The first ban will apply on Thursday 25 December, from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm, followed by Friday 26 December, again from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm. Traffic will be allowed on Saturday 27 December, but the ban will resume on Sunday 28 December. On this occasion, unlike other Sundays, the restriction will start at 7.00 am rather than 9.00 am, and will end as usual at 10.00 pm. This will be the final ban of 2025.
The first restriction of 2026 will fall on Thursday 1 January, from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm, followed by three consecutive days of bans: Sunday 4 January from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm, Monday 5 January from 4.00 pm to 10.00 pm, and Tuesday 6 January from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm. For the remainder of the month, the standard Sunday ban from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm will apply. As far as exemptions are concerned, only those currently in force for 2025 can be confirmed, as the Ministry has not yet released the full text of the 2026 Decree, which may introduce some changes.
