On November 5, 2024, the Management Committee of the Port System Authority of the Ionian Sea gave its approval to the application for a maritime concession submitted by Vestas Blades Italy to utilize the Logistics Platform at the Port of Taranto. The nine-year concession will support the new production line of blades for the world's largest wind turbine, the Vestas V236 with a 15 MW capacity. According to the Authority, the port infrastructure will enable Vestas to logistically manage the production of 115.5-meter-long blades, facilitating integration between maritime transport, rail transport, and assembly activities for offshore wind energy components. The Authority added that Vestas' proposal was chosen for its alignment with the strategic goals of the Port of Taranto and its concrete and sustainable approach from a social, environmental, and economic perspective. Vestas also commits to collaborating with the Taranto Port Workers Agency, creating job opportunities for local residents.
