Scania announced at the end of April 2026 that the Longline cab will enter regular production, turning a concept already well received by the market into a certified factory-built solution. Sales start in the same month, with first deliveries scheduled for the autumn. The cab will be produced in Laxå, while the chassis will be built at the Södertälje plant. The new offer sits at the upper end of the Swedish brand’s range and is aimed at customers looking for more onboard space, greater comfort and scope for customisation. Production will, however, be limited to small volumes, integrated into Scania’s modular system and intended for applications in which the cab becomes a key part of how the driver’s work is organised.
The Longline is based on a combination of the Crewcab and the high-roof S-series cab. According to Scania, this combination enables the company to offer a factory-built product that currently has no direct equivalent among other manufacturers. The aim is not to provide an interior layout already defined in every detail, but a flexible industrial platform prepared for later configurations. Scania’s chosen approach provides only limited interior equipment behind the seats. Initial options include a standard bed with storage compartments, shelving solutions or a more open configuration. The design includes predefined attachments and fixing points, allowing customers or bodybuilders to develop the interior according to operational requirements.
Lars Gustafsson, head of commercial vehicles at Scania, describes the Longline as the evolution of a concept that has long been present in customer demand: "With Longline, we combine tradition and modern industrialisation and offer a platform that can be adapted to individual needs," he explains. The decision not to equip the cab with standard elements that customers may not require is also part of the project’s approach. Samuel Suderbys, general manager of Scania’s operations in Laxå, says the company avoids adding unnecessary components, reducing waste in line with its sustainability goals. For operators, this can mean greater freedom in choosing the equipment that is genuinely useful.
Scania expects many customers to further personalise these vehicles, both in colour and interior specification. The manufacturer will therefore offer high-end paint options in all available colours, in cooperation with a specialised Swedish paint supplier, reducing the time between vehicle delivery and the start of operations. The cab is adapted to European IVD rules on increased vehicle dimensions, which have made it possible to purchase longer vehicles in several European markets. In the initial phase, two length versions, 28 and 31, will be available, both with a high roof. Internal height will exceed two metres, allowing most drivers to stand upright.
The Longline project stems from market demand also linked to drivers’ working conditions. The increase in interior space and the ability to configure the cab according to the driver’s needs address a central issue for road haulage: attracting and retaining skilled staff. Gustafsson stresses that the cab is not only about space, but about creating a better working environment.
For road haulage companies, the availability of a factory-certified long cab can offer several advantages. On the one hand, it reduces the need for complex external modifications to the vehicle structure; on the other, it allows operators to start from a platform designed by the manufacturer, with greater consistency between chassis, cab and body-mounting points. This is particularly important for specialised fleets, long-haul transport and applications in which drivers spend extended periods on board. Scania places the Longline within its tradition of special solutions developed in response to market demand. The project began in 2022, following the manufacturer’s approach to non-standard applications. Production in Laxå confirms the site’s role in specialist operations, while Södertälje retains responsibility for the chassis base.
