Volvo Trucks launches stop/start technology to reduce consumption and emissions
Volvo Trucks has unveiled a world first for the heavy-duty vehicle sector: the integration of engine stop/start functionality into its latest generation I-Roll technology. The system, developed internally by the company, enables reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by temporarily switching off the engine during downhill sections without compromising vehicle operation. The function activates at speeds above 60 km/h and utilises road data and information on road curvature. Under favourable conditions, it can deliver additional cuts of up to 1% in consumption and emissions, beyond the savings already achieved through the aerodynamic solutions introduced in 2024 with the FH Aero cab. The new system will be available from September 2025 on Volvo FH and FH Aero models with 13-litre diesel engines, reinforcing the decarbonisation strategy that also includes battery electric and fuel cell vehicles.
Scania announces 750 redundancies in Sweden
Scania announced on 1 September 2025 a reorganisation plan to adapt to new market conditions and strengthen its competitiveness. The measure involves redundancy notices for 750 positions in Sweden, which will not affect production workers. The areas involved are HR, People & Culture (approximately 400 positions) and commercial, sales and marketing units (approximately 350). "It is a difficult but necessary decision to continue leading the transition towards a sustainable transport system," declared Chief Executive Christian Levin. According to Jeanna Tällberg, executive vice president and head of People & Culture, the company will carry forward the process with respect towards the employees involved. Trade union consultations are ongoing.
