The DB Cargo Spedkol rail terminal in Kędzierzyn-Koźle, , in Poland’s Silesia region, was completed and came on stream in September 2025. With an investment of more than 50 million zloty (around 11.5 million euros), it is one of the largest infrastructures of its kind in Poland, designed for the handling and storage of steel products, in particular steel coils.
At the heart of the site is a 7,100-square-metre warehouse equipped with two gantry cranes, with lifting capacities of 35 and 47 tonnes, able to handle coils up to 2,700 millimetres in diameter and weighing a maximum of 42 tonnes. The facility also features two loading and unloading tracks and a yard enabling direct transfers between rail wagons, warehouse and trucks, cutting transhipment times and enhancing operational flexibility.
The terminal is located at the Sławięcice hub, within the DB Cargo Spedkol rail network, which stretches over some 50 kilometres. Its position guarantees direct connections to the trans-European Ten-T network and easy access to the A4 and A1 motorways, strengthening Silesia’s role as a logistics gateway on the border. From here, three regular rail services are operated: to Kraków Nowa Huta and Horka on the German border, with seven weekly departures, and to Chałupki, Poznań and Łódź, with three weekly services.
Operationally, the railport can handle around 4,000 wagons and up to 200,000 tonnes of steel annually. According to DB Cargo Polska, the facility has been designed with energy-efficient technologies and ecological heating systems to limit environmental impact.
The initiative is part of DB Cargo Polska’s broader expansion strategy along the so-called eastern corridors. Active since 2009 and now employing around 2,800 people, the company has diversified beyond coal transport, focusing on steel, intermodal traffic and cross-border logistics. The Sławków terminal remains central as the entry point for rail flows from Asia thanks to its broad-gauge line, while further developments have also been pursued in Małaszewicze, a key intermodal hub for Eurasian traffic.
