Cornelissen acquires electric trucks
The Dutch logistics provider Cornelissen Transport has ordered 27 electric industrial vehicles from MAN, comprising 25 eTGX trucks with GM cabs and two eTGS models. These trucks will primarily serve supermarket deliveries, a sector in which electric mobility is rapidly gaining importance. MAN secured the order due to its competitive offer, immediate vehicle availability, and extensive service network. Cornelissen, which already operates a fleet of around 600 trucks and 100 vans, is increasingly focusing on electrification. “We expect electric trucks to become more profitable than diesel by 2027-2028,” stated Peter Leegstraten, the company's head of procurement and innovation.
Chiggiato transports to Egypt
Chiggiato is extending its international reach with temperature-controlled transport services from Italy to Egypt. In February, a consignment departed from the port of Trieste, arrived in Damietta, and then continued on to Cairo, establishing new routes into Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Despite adverse weather conditions extending the transit time to over 80 hours, compared to the expected 69 hours, the safety and integrity of the goods were assured by refrigerated vehicles and continuous monitoring throughout the journey.
Refrigerated warehouses at Interporto Vespucci
At the Amerigo Vespucci Interporto in Guasticce, Tuscany, construction has begun on a new warehouse designed specifically for frozen products, financed through Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) as part of the Cold Chain Livorno project. Led by the Port System Authority of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea, the initiative aims to boost efficiency and sustainability in the cold-chain logistics sector at the port of Livorno. The €7.014 million contract was awarded to a temporary joint venture comprising Frangerini Impresa, Intersonda, EuroImpianti, and Siel. The 60x30-metre facility will feature low-temperature storage units, a 320 kWp photovoltaic system, and automated racking solutions.

Hydrogen at Porto Marghera
The Sapio green hydrogen production facility at Porto Marghera, the core of Veneto’s new Hydrogen Valley, has received rapid approval thanks to a simplified procedure under the region’s Simplified Logistics Zone (ZLS). Authorisation was swiftly granted by the Port System Authority of the Northern Adriatic Sea, allowing construction of a 4.59 MW electrolyser capable of producing around 1,000 Nm³ of hydrogen per hour. Powered entirely by renewable energy sources, this PNRR-funded project aims to decarbonise industry and port logistics while regenerating disused areas within Marghera.
Evergreen orders six 24,000-TEU container ships
Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen has commissioned South Korea's Hanwha Ocean to construct six dual-fuel, LNG-powered container ships, each with a capacity of 24,000 TEU. The order is valued at approximately USD 1.6 billion. The vessels, measuring 400 metres in length and 61.5 metres in width, will feature advanced environmentally friendly technologies, including LNG propulsion and air lubrication systems. Hanwha Ocean emphasised the significance of this contract as a strategic counterweight to recent Chinese dominance, reinforcing its leadership position in the global container-shipbuilding industry, with 72 vessels already constructed.
