Dachser Iberia has introduced two BYD ETM6 electric trucks in Spain for urban distribution in Barcelona and Valencia, following a trial programme launched in September 2025 and completed after more than 3,500 kilometres driven under real operating conditions. The vehicles entered service between 9 and 10 February 2026 and are deployed on daily delivery routes, returning to the branch for overnight charging.
The ETM6 is a medium-light vehicle designed for urban transport, equipped with a 126 kWh battery and a declared range of close to 200 kilometres per charging cycle. According to findings from the trial phase, the vehicle was integrated into standard distribution flows without changes to delivery times or service levels. Its use is focused on urban routes considered most compatible with the available range and the presence of charging infrastructure at company sites.
The introduction of the two vehicles represents the first delivery of BYD electric trucks to an end customer in Spain and carries significance beyond the scale of the order. For a Chinese manufacturer such as BYD, already present in Europe in the bus and light commercial vehicle segments, the move into industrial vehicles for freight distribution strengthens a strategy of gradual consolidation in the European market.
The broader context is one of accelerating electrification in urban distribution, driven by traffic restrictions in city centres and emission reduction targets set at national and European level. In this scenario, Chinese manufacturers are stepping up their presence, offering integrated solutions that combine battery and vehicle production, with direct control over the value chain.
Barcelona and Valencia, strategic hubs in Dachser’s Iberian network and areas characterised by high freight traffic density and tightening environmental constraints, provide a significant testing ground. The outcome of this initial phase could influence future decisions not only by the German operator in Spain, but more broadly the pace at which Chinese brands penetrate the European electric truck segment for urban distribution.
