In 2024, the European industrial vehicle market displayed diverging trends across different categories. Registrations of new commercial vehicles in the European Union rose by 8.3%, reaching 1,586,688 units. This growth was driven by positive results across all four major markets: Spain saw an increase of 13.7%, Germany 8.4%, France 1.1%, and Italy 0.9%. Diesel retained its dominant position, with a 10.5% increase in registrations, totalling 1,340,003 units and securing an 84.5% market share. Petrol vehicles recorded a 3% rise, maintaining a 6% share. By contrast, registrations of rechargeable electric vans dropped by 9.1%, reducing their market share to 6.1% from the previous 7.2%, while hybrid-electric models saw a 4.8% decline, accounting for just 2% of the market.
In contrast, new industrial vehicle registrations in the EU fell by 6.3% in 2024, settling at 327,896 units. This downturn was primarily driven by an 8.5% decrease in heavy truck sales, partially offset by a 5.6% rise in medium truck registrations. Among the key markets, Germany recorded a 6.9% decline, France 2.9%, and Italy 0.7%, whereas Spain stood out with a significant 12% increase.
Diesel trucks continued to dominate the market, accounting for 95.1% of new registrations, despite a 6.2% decline. Registrations of rechargeable electric trucks fell by 4.6%, maintaining a stable 2.3% market share. On a national level, Germany, Italy, and Sweden recorded notable growth in electric truck sales, while France and the Netherlands experienced significant declines.
