Siemens Mobility will be taking part in transport logistic 2025 with a range of technological solutions for the rail sector. Taking centre stage are two significant innovations: the Vectron AC locomotive equipped with a battery module and the Vectron MS, capable of operating across multiple electrical systems. These are accompanied by digital developments, such as the Smart Asset suite powered by the Railigent X platform. “Our customers expect absolute reliability and solutions for every aspect of rail transport. With our platforms and innovations, we support them in optimising operational processes and expanding the capabilities of their fleets,” said Steffen Bobsien, vice president of Siemens Mobility’s locomotive division.
The new Vectron AC with battery module is designed to operate even on routes without overhead lines, such as shunting in stations or last-mile segments. At the heart of this solution is a high-voltage lithium-ion module, managed by an intelligent system that controls the charging and discharging cycles. The aim is to offer operators greater operational flexibility, including in scenarios where infrastructure is not fully electrified. According to Siemens, the benefits are both environmental and economic, thanks to reduced need for auxiliary vehicles and more efficient rolling stock management.
Also on display at the Siemens stand is the Vectron MS, a multi-system locomotive designed for cross-border services throughout Europe. Able to adapt to the various electrical standards used across different countries, the Vectron MS enables railway operators to simplify international operations and make better use of their fleets. In a market increasingly focused on continental service integration, the ability to cover long routes without switching locomotives is a key competitive advantage.
In addition to mechanical innovation, Siemens Mobility is also focusing on the digitalisation of rail services. The Smart Asset Suite, based on the Railigent X platform, is a comprehensive software solution designed to analyse and improve the day-to-day operation of trains. Its objective is to increase locomotive availability and reduce downtime, making operations more reliable and efficient. The suite is available as a digital upgrade for any Vectron locomotive and integrates seamlessly with other management tools presented in Munich, such as Railcover, a modular maintenance service for locomotives, and Rail Service Hub, a predictive fleet management platform also based on Railigent X. Notable as well is MoBase, the online marketplace for railway spare parts, designed to simplify logistics and shorten procurement times.
