In a period marked by profound uncertainty in international trade, three airlines have entered into an alliance in the freight sector. Qatar Airways, IAG (parent company of British Airways) and Malaysia Aviation Group announced in April 2025 the creation of an operational alliance aimed at strengthening connectivity between key markets, enhancing service flexibility and offering new logistical solutions to customers worldwide.
According to a joint statement, the new collaboration will involve the integration of the cargo operations of the three companies. This will not only expand the available route network but also enable more efficient management of transit times and greater versatility in responding to customer needs. The project aims to fully leverage the respective infrastructures, creating a more extensive global network.
Qatar Airways Cargo is one of the world’s leading cargo carriers and has recently streamlined its fleet to a single aircraft type, focusing on the Boeing B777F, of which it operates 28 units, with a further 34 B777-8F on order (plus 16 options) scheduled for delivery from 2027. IAG, which includes British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling and Level, utilises the bellyhold capacity of its passenger aircraft to transport cargo, operating more than 15,000 weekly flights. Maskargo, part of Malaysia Aviation Group, operates three A330-200F freighters, supplemented by the bellyhold space of its passenger aircraft.
