€86 million rail investment in Ukraine
The Ukrainian government, Ukrainian Railways (UZ), and the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme will invest €85.91 million to develop a standard-gauge railway infrastructure in Ukraine. This project marks the first collaboration between state funds and CEF financing for such an initiative, UZ stated. The aim is to facilitate the integration of Ukraine's railway network with the European system, enhancing connectivity and reducing infrastructure barriers.
Andrea Menechini appointed Head of Development at P3 Italy
Logistics real estate developer P3 has appointed Andrea Menechini as Head of Development in Italy. Menechini, with extensive experience in the property sector, has worked for companies such as Premium Retail, Arcus Real Estate, and Aquila Capital. A graduate in Urban Planning from the Polytechnic University of Milan, Menechini will lead the real estate development team in his new role, focusing on new opportunities in Italy's key logistics hubs. Andrea Amoretti, Managing Director of P3, highlighted that Menechini's arrival will strengthen the company's ability to provide sustainable solutions and effectively meet client needs.
Meeting in Rotterdam on pest-resistant containers
Biosafety and shipping industry experts gathered in Rotterdam to discuss the design of pest-resistant containers, tackling a global issue costing $423 billion annually. An Australian study found that modified containers reduce pest contamination rates from 8% to 1.45%. Among the proposals were improvements to container flooring and substructures to prevent cracks and hiding places. At the end of the symposium, a working group was formed to develop further proposals, aiming to protect biodiversity and food security.
Brebemi motorway achieves iRap certification
The A35 Brebemi-Aleatica motorway has become the first in Italy to achieve the international iRap certification, a recognition that attests to the excellence of infrastructure safety. It earned a four-star rating. "Being the first in Italy to obtain this certification is a source of great pride and responsibility," said Matteo Milanesi, General Director of A35 Brebemi.
CMA CGM acquires 48% stake in Santos Brasil
French logistics group CMA CGM has announced the acquisition of a 48% stake in Brazil's leading port operator, Santos Brasil Participações, strengthening its presence in South America. The deal, valued at approximately $2 billion, will allow CMA CGM to control the largest container terminal in South America, Tecon Santos, at the Port of Santos, which handles 40% of Brazil's container traffic. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals. CMA CGM will then launch an offer for the remaining capital of Santos Brasil, in line with Brazilian regulations.
New rail contracts for Reway Group
Reway Group subsidiary Gema has secured new contracts worth a total of €56 million in the rail sector. The projects, awarded by Italian Railway Network (RFI), include noise mitigation works in Abruzzo (€45.6 million) and extraordinary maintenance in Rome and Cagliari (€10.4 million). With these new contracts, Reway Group's order book has reached €1.131 billion, marking an important step towards balancing road and rail projects, as noted by Chairman Paolo Luccini.
