At its meeting on 23 July 2025, the ZLS steering committee of Genoa resolved to expand the simplified logistics zone of the regional capital towards the west, incorporating the ports of Savona, Vado Ligure and Bergeggi. This move is made possible in part by institutional cooperation with the Lombardy Region, which has temporarily made available an extension of 454.66 hectares. This contribution allows for the inclusion of key areas within the ZLS perimeter, paving the way for new synergies between Liguria and Piedmont in logistics and manufacturing.
The newly added areas include not only the port territories of Savona, Vado Ligure and Bergeggi, but also state-owned assets from the former cableway system, currently under special administration. This infrastructural legacy, if properly enhanced, could become a hub for high-value-added production activities, attracting manufacturing settlements, advanced technologies and both national and international investment.
During the same session, the committee also approved an extension of the deadline for submitting expressions of interest in locating within the enclosed customs free zone, moving it to 28 October 2025. This decision is accompanied by the publication of the call for expressions in multiple languages, with the aim of encouraging international participation and broadening the range of potential investors.
