Convictions at first instance over the Ponte Morandi collapse

EU advocate general partly backs Italian case over Brenner restrictions
16 Luglio 2026 - The conclusions published on 16 July 2026 by the advocate general of the Court of Justice of the European Union in the Italy v Austria case on Brenner restrictions for industrial vehicles find the night-time, sectoral and winter bans on the Brenner and Inn Valley motorways to be contrary to EU law, while upholding the traffic dosing system on the A12.

London devises a new tax for electric vehicles
16 Luglio 2026 - From 2028, electric and plug-in hybrid cars registered in the United Kingdom will pay a mileage-based tax, the Electric Vehicle Excise Duty, with rates of 3p and 1.5p per mile, payable in addition to ordinary vehicle tax.

DP World also turns to road transport after Hormuz
15 Luglio 2026 - DP World is adding 700 commercial vehicles to its road network in the Persian Gulf, increasing capacity to 35,000 monthly trips between the six economies of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The move comes as tensions between the United States and Iran fuel uncertainty over transits through the Strait of Hormuz.

Seizure over false invoices in Calabria road haulage
14 Luglio 2026 - The Crotone Financial Police has seized more than €400,000 in accounts, shareholdings and property from a road haulage company based in Cirò Marina, as part of an investigation into an alleged false invoicing scheme involving a company in Lucca. Four people are under investigation.

Slovenian H4 motorway towards Italy closes again for four months
6 Luglio 2026 - From 5 July 2026, the Slovenian H4 expressway will remain closed towards Italy for 132 days on the Vipava-Razdrto section. Heavy goods vehicles will have to divert via Fernetti. Queues are expected at Lisert, with mitigation measures agreed by Italian and Slovenian authorities after the experience of the first phase in 2025.

Lamberet enters six-month business recovery proceedings with continuity of operations
4 Luglio 2026 - The Tribunal des Activités Économiques de Lyon has opened redressement judiciaire proceedings for Lamberet, the long-established French bodybuilder of refrigerated industrial vehicles with around 1,000 employees. A six-month observation period has been granted to support a relaunch, while production and deliveries continue as normal and the sector faces growing fragility.
