SeaLead launches direct Turkey–Italy service
Shipping company SeaLead has announced the launch of the Türkiye–Italy Express, a direct container service by sea, with its inaugural departure from Gemlik scheduled for 25 June 2025. The new weekly route will call at the ports of Gemlik, Izmit, Istanbul, Aliaga, Salerno, La Spezia and Genoa before returning to Turkey. The Tie service aims to reduce transit times and improve logistics efficiency between the two countries, integrating with SeaLead's existing network in the Mediterranean, Europe and Asia.
Kuehne+Nagel opens branch in Naples
Kuehne+Nagel has opened a new office in Naples, marking the first step in a wider expansion strategy across southern Italy. The branch provides sea, air and road freight services, with a focus on key sectors such as agri-food, naval, textile, pharmaceutical and electronics. Naples, a natural hub for the Mediterranean, strengthens regional trade routes. The opening has been accompanied by the recruitment of new team members locally, in line with the company's Roadmap 2026, which aims to deliver tailored logistics solutions for businesses in southern Italy.
Rolling motorway Cherbourg–Bayonne gets underway
The first train of the French rolling motorway between Cherbourg and Bayonne has departed, carrying eight semi-trailers loaded with goods. Backed by Brittany Ferries, Ports de Normandie and Sncf Réseau, the project is still considered experimental, with three weekly journeys planned until July, increasing to five thereafter. The train will continue to carry eight semi-trailers, with the potential to reach a capacity of 44 units by 2026.
CargoBeamer to open its own terminal in Germany
CargoBeamer is to build a new intermodal terminal in Kaldenkirchen, near the German–Dutch border. The site, set to become operational in 2026, will be dedicated to the automated transfer of non-craneable semi-trailers to rail. With an annual capacity of up to 228,000 loading units, the terminal will be among the largest in Europe. Built in two phases, it will occupy the site of the current terminal operated by Cabooter Group. Construction is due to start in the second half of 2025. The project is co-funded by Germany's Federal Railway Authority and CargoBeamer.
Yusen Logistics launches European project with Shelf-to-Person robots
Yusen Logistics has launched its first automated order fulfilment project in Europe, deploying 165 Shelf-to-Person robots from Geek+ at its over 111,000 square metre distribution centre in Northampton, United Kingdom. Managed by Logistex, the initiative will be implemented in two phases to ensure business continuity. The Geek+ P800 V6.0 solution aims to enhance picking efficiency, inventory accuracy and space utilisation, within a temperature-controlled B2B and B2C environment. The project is part of Yusen's digitalisation strategy, designed to increase flexibility and responsiveness to customer needs.
Spring Gds cuts 837 tonnes of CO2 in Italy with Hvo
In just one year, Spring Gds has cut its CO2 emissions in Italy by 27% through the use of Hvo100 biodiesel, saving more than 837,000 kg of carbon dioxide. The initiative, launched in April 2024 in partnership with PostNL, introduced 4 million litres of Hvo100 into the company’s European road transport network. On a continental scale, the adoption of the renewable fuel has prevented the emission of over 26,000 tonnes of CO2.
Rina acquires Foreship
Rina has acquired 100% of Foreship, a Finnish company specialising in naval architecture and marine engineering, from Vaaka Partners and its management. The deal expands Rina’s global offering in maritime technical consultancy and strengthens its presence in Northern Europe. Headquartered in Helsinki, Foreship posted revenues of 15.2 million euros in 2024 and employs over 90 professionals across eight offices worldwide. It is known for its projects in the cruise sector, energy-efficient solutions and sustainable marine technologies. The company’s activities will be integrated into Rina Consulting.
