Kawczyński Logistics expands its fleet with 75 new Actros L ProCabin trucks
Kawczyński Logistics has taken delivery of 75 new Mercedes-Benz Actros L ProCabin 1848 LS tractor units from the dealer Sobiesław Zasada Automotive. A customer for the past 14 years, the company has reaffirmed its trust in the brand by introducing vehicles designed for long-distance international transport. The new Actros models, equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, exceed the requirements of the General Safety Regulation (GSR) in force since July 2024. These trucks will replace Mercedes-Benz models that have been in operation for the past four years. The fleet now numbers around 295 units, many of which bear the Mercedes logo.
Wiedmann & Winz to test hydrogen trucks from 2026
Wiedmann & Winz will be among the first five companies in the world to test the GenH2 hydrogen fuel cell truck from Daimler Truck. From 2026, the company will offer customers the opportunity to trial the vehicle. The project forms part of Daimler’s Pegasus initiative, which includes the introduction of one hundred hydrogen trucks backed by €50 million in funding. The GenH2, currently being used in a pilot project with DP World, offers a range of over 1,000 kilometres, refuelling in just 15 minutes and a payload capacity of 25 tonnes.
Gebrüder Weiss opens branch in Thailand
Gebrüder Weiss will open a new national branch in Thailand on 1 June 2025, strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia. The international transport and logistics company aims to establish direct links with Asia-Pacific markets. The Bangkok branch, staffed by 20 employees, will handle international sea and air freight, customs clearance and overland transport services. In the medium term, the company plans to expand its warehousing logistics services, with a focus on the automotive and high-tech sectors.
Msc brings 24,000 teu container ship to West Africa
Msc has become the first shipping company to deploy ultra-large 24,000 teu container vessels in Africa. The Msc Diletta and Msc Türkiye are now operating on the Africa Express service, which connects ports in China and South Korea with Southeast Asia and West Africa, including Ghana, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon. The Msc Diletta made a stop in Lomé (Togo) on 23 April, marking a regional milestone. The move is driven by growing trade between Asia and West Africa, increasing demand for cargo capacity and improved local port infrastructure.
Assiterminal approves 2024 accounts and launches future initiatives
The annual general meeting of Assiterminal concluded with the approval of the 2024 accounts and the presentation of new initiatives. President Tomaso Cognolato outlined the results of his first year in office, highlighting organisational strengthening and a rise in member companies, now numbering 94 across 34 Italian ports. Key topics included updates to the collective labour agreement, with a focus on the new apprenticeship scheme, and a recent regulatory resolution.
Fruttagel stays on course: revenue rises, employment stable
Fruttagel closed 2024 with a slight increase in revenue, reaching €156 million, and stable employment at its two sites in Alfonsine (Ra) and Larino (Cb), with 640 and 176 employees respectively. Despite the difficult international context and the effects of climate change, the cooperative has weathered the storm by focusing on healthy and sustainable products. Juices and fruit, vegetable and tea-based drinks account for 36 per cent of revenue, frozen vegetables 46 per cent and tomato products 16 per cent.
Musolino confirmed as President of MEDports in Tangier
Pino Musolino, Extraordinary Commissioner of Asp Mtcs, has been unanimously re-elected President of MEDports for another two years during the association’s Annual General Assembly held in Tangier. The event included forums and panels on smart logistics, renewable energy and maritime security. Under his leadership, MEDports has grown to 33 members, promoting the role of Mediterranean ports in economic development and regional integration. Musolino reiterated his commitment to tackling global challenges such as decarbonisation and digitalisation, while strengthening Euro-African cooperation.
