Dhl has integrated over 30,000 refugees
Over the past ten years, Dhl Group has integrated more than 30,000 refugees into the labour market, offering stable contracts, internships and 350 apprenticeships. Since 2015, through language courses, training programmes and collaborations with organisations such as the UNHCR, many refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine have been hired, particularly in delivery and sorting roles. Some have resumed their original professions, while others have built internal careers, progressing from drivers to team leaders. According to human resources director Thomas Ogilvie, rapid integration brings both social and economic value.
Tokyo to launch battery swapping for electric trucks
An international consortium made up of Mitsubishi Fuso, Mitsubishi Motors, Ample and Yamato Transport will launch a pilot project in September 2025 to introduce more than 150 electric commercial vehicles with swappable batteries and 14 modular exchange stations in the Japanese capital. The initiative, supported by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, aims to reduce recharging times to five minutes and help meet Japan’s climate targets. Ample will provide the technology and infrastructure for battery swapping, while Yamato Transport will test the vehicles for last-mile deliveries.
Metrans expands the Gądki terminal in Poland
Metrans has begun work on expanding the intermodal terminal in Gądki, Poland. The project, expected to be completed in the second half of 2026, aims to boost operational capacity and improve service efficiency. Key upgrades include the installation of next-generation RMG cranes, the enlargement of the operational area, the extension and construction of tracks for trains up to 750 metres long, the expansion of the cargo handling area and the building of a new truck access route with parking for heavy vehicles. The investment will be carried out in phases to ensure uninterrupted service.
Boeing forecasts 955 new cargo aircraft by 2044
Boeing anticipates significant growth in air cargo traffic over the next twenty years. According to the 2025 Commercial Market Outlook, the global cargo aircraft fleet will expand by nearly two-thirds, requiring 2,900 new aircraft, including both conversions and newly built models. Specifically, 955 new freighter aircraft are expected to be delivered by 2044. The demand is driven by the expansion of express cargo networks and the diversification of global supply chains.
Azul launches new cargo flights from Madrid to Brazil
Global Gsa Group has announced the launch of Azul Brazilian Airline’s cargo operations from Madrid. The new services, active since 10 June 2025, include five weekly flights to Viracopos and three to Recife, operated with A330 aircraft. Each flight offers up to 10 tonnes or 60 cubic metres of cargo capacity. The expansion also includes routes from Porto, strengthening Azul’s European network already operating from Lisbon and Paris-Orly. The initiative was marked by a Brazil-themed event in Madrid. Global Gsa Group is Azul’s exclusive general sales agent in Spain.
Hylane introduces first zero-emission truck rental service in the Netherlands
Following its success in Germany, Hylane is launching the first pay-per-use zero-emission truck rental service in the Netherlands. The offer includes hydrogen and battery-powered vehicles, such as Hyundai and Daimler Truck fuel cell trucks, along with MAN’s new hydrogen combustion models, thanks to a partnership with the manufacturer. Hydrogen-powered vehicles benefit from the national SWiM subsidy scheme. According to managing directors Sara Schiffer and Maximilian Draxler, the expansion reflects the Dutch market’s commitment to sustainability and the growing demand for cross-border logistics solutions.
