Iveco launches spin-off of its Defence division
Iveco Group has announced it will proceed with the spin-off or sale of its Defence division, following lower-than-expected results in the first quarter of 2025. The adjusted operating profit from industrial activities dropped by 42%, reaching 117 million euros, impacted by declining demand for industrial vehicles in Europe. The separation of the Defence unit is expected within the year, following preliminary offers. The group has nonetheless confirmed its full-year forecasts.
China’s largest LNG car carrier christened
On 15 May, the Yuanhaikou was christened, the largest Chinese car carrier powered by solar energy and dual-fuel LNG. Loaded with vehicles from Chinese brands, over 90% of which are new energy models, the vessel set sail on its maiden voyage to Greece, Turkey, Italy, Tunisia and other countries. Equipped with a dual-fuel LNG engine, the vessel ensures a 20% fuel saving and significant emission reductions: 27% less CO₂, 30% less NOx, 99% less sulphur compounds and over 90% less particulate matter compared to traditional vessels.
Kazakhstan forecasts 220% growth in the Middle Corridor
Kazakhstan expects a 220% increase in freight traffic along the Middle Corridor by 2027. The railway corridor, which connects China to Europe through Central Asia and the Caucasus, is undergoing rapid expansion. Data indicates a steady rise in transported volumes, confirming Kazakhstan’s strategic role as a key transit country.
100 million dollar works completed at Manila port
DP World and Asian Terminals have completed a 100 million dollar expansion at Manila South Harbour. The upgrades have increased the terminal’s annual capacity by over 45%, bringing it close to 2 million teu. Works included the extension of Pier 3 berthing to over 600 metres, enlargement of the yard to accommodate 20,000 teu, addition of two new STS cranes and the acquisition of eco-friendly ground equipment. The enhancement enables the port to handle larger ships and greater cargo volumes, improving turnaround times for the Philippines’ international trade.
Delta launches first direct flight from Catania to New York
Starting 23 May, Delta Air Lines will operate a new daily service between Catania and New York-JFK, marking the airline’s first direct flight from Sicily and the only current route between Catania and the United States. The announcement was made during a press conference at Catania Airport. “A historic step for the airport and for all of Sicily,” said Nico Torrisi, CEO of Sac. Matteo Curcio, Delta’s vice president for the EMEA region, highlighted the importance of the route for tourism and connections with the Italian-American community. Catania thus becomes the fifth Italian city served by Delta.
DKV Mobility expands charging network in Ireland
DKV Mobility has announced the expansion of its electric vehicle charging network in Ireland thanks to a new partnership with EasyGo. The agreement has led to the integration of over 1,150 new charging points, about a third of which are high-power DC stations. The points are distributed nationwide, including rural areas and strategic locations, offering near-complete coverage. The new chargers can be accessed via the DKV Card +Charge and the DKV Mobility app.
