A commercial-scale e-methanol plant has been launched in Denmark
The new Kassø plant for the production of e-methanol has been inaugurated in Aabenraa, Denmark. Developed by European Energy in collaboration with Mitsui, the facility has an annual capacity of 42,000 tonnes and is powered entirely by renewable energy. It is located next to the largest solar park in Northern Europe. The e-methanol produced will be used by Maersk to fuel the Laura Maersk, the world’s first operational methanol-powered container ship, as well as by Lego Group and Novo Nordisk as a replacement for fossil-based methanol in industrial processes.
Indra makes a bid for Iveco Defense
Spanish company Indra has submitted a non-binding offer to acquire Iveco Defense Vehicles, the military division of the Italian group Iveco, which is controlled by Exor. According to El Economista, the bid amounts to around 750 million euros, approximately half of the 1.5 billion offer made by the Leonardo-Rheinmetall consortium. The unit, valued at around one billion euros, manufactures armoured vehicles and is a supplier to the Spanish Ministry of Defence. Indra, which is 28% owned by the Spanish state through Sepi, aims to strengthen its position in a context of rising public defence spending.
Autotrasporti Mozzi invests in six Kraker moving floors
Autotrasporti Mozzi is expanding its fleet with six Kraker K-Force semi-trailers. The company from Piacenza, which has been active in waste transport for over 30 years, has chosen moving floors by the Dutch manufacturer, exclusively imported into Italy by Multitrax. The official handover took place on 9 May 2025 in Cremona, marking a milestone for a company that continues to stand out in the specialised transport sector.
Livorno launches construction works for the new Darsena Europa
With a symbolic load of earth from a quarry truck, construction works have officially begun for Livorno’s Darsena Europa, the new container terminal worth over 700 million euros that is set to double the port’s capacity. The ceremony was attended by the outgoing president of the port authority, Luciano Guerrieri. Immediately afterwards, the official report was signed for the handover of maritime works, which were awarded to a consortium led by Fincantieri Infrastructure. The works will last five years and include more than six kilometres of breakwaters and 130 hectares of new basins. The question of who will manage the container terminal remains open, with both MSC and Grimaldi competing for the concession.
Qatar Airways Cargo boosts Australian exports with Virgin Australia
Qatar Airways Cargo has announced a new partnership with Virgin Australia that will bring over 180 additional weekly tonnes of cargo capacity from Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Starting in June 2025, Virgin Australia will operate daily Boeing 777 flights between major Australian cities and Doha, increasing total weekly capacity on each route to over 400 tonnes. Additional flights from Melbourne will be introduced by December 2025. The agreement aims to enhance Australian exports, particularly in the perishable goods and pharmaceutical sectors, by strengthening links with global markets.
Thai Airways strengthens presence in the Nordic countries with Hwf
From 15 May 2025, Thai Airways has appointed Hwf Scandinavia and Finland, part of the ECS Group, as its exclusive general sales and service agent (GSSA) for Sweden and Denmark. The airline operates daily direct flights from Stockholm and Copenhagen to Bangkok, ensuring fast connections to the Asia-Pacific region. Hwf will manage sales and customer service, offering tailored cargo solutions based on its knowledge of the local market and ECS Group’s technological support. The agreement reinforces a long-standing partnership, aiming to consolidate Thai Airways’ position as a leading logistics operator in the Nordic region.
