Just days after a substantial shipment of war weapons was found en route to Libya in containers transiting through Gioia Tauro, the Guardia di Finanza and the Customs Agency have unearthed two military drones in six containers at the same Calabrian port. These weapons, originating from China, were also destined for Libya. The container documentation claimed the contents were components for wind energy generators, and indeed, the drones were disguised as parts of wind turbines.
The Guardia di Finanza explained that once assembled, these drones would have a mass of over three tons, with a length exceeding ten meters and a wingspan of approximately twenty meters. The Prosecutor's Office has seized all the materials, filing charges of international arms trafficking to Libya, a country under embargo according to UN Security Council resolutions and national and EU regulations.
