On April 24, 2025, Lufthansa Cargo officially launched its latest addition to its cargo fleet at Buenos Aires Airport: the Boeing 777, identified as D-ALFL, which was named ¡Hola Argentina!, a tribute to the long-standing commercial relationship between the German company and the South American country. This initiative is part of the "Say hello around the world" project, active since 2013, which involves naming each aircraft after one of the markets served, emphasising the airline's global commitment to connecting economies and production chains.
Having been present in Argentina since 1970, Lufthansa Cargo reinforces its role as an air transport provider in a region that, despite the turbulence of the global economy, remains a central hub in the trade flows between the Americas and Europe. Argentina, in particular, stands out for the strength of its export sectors, ranging from agrifood to energy, as well as raw materials, but it is also at the centre of a growing demand for high-value imported goods, such as machinery, electronic equipment, and automobiles.
With the introduction of the summer schedule for 2025, the airline has strengthened its presence in Latin America, adding one additional weekly flight to Buenos Aires and one to Curitiba compared to the previous winter schedule. This increases the number of dedicated cargo flights to the region to four weekly services, including destinations such as Viracopos and Montevideo. Additionally, numerous passenger connections with belly hold capacity are available, with up to twenty weekly rotations from Frankfurt and three from Munich, provided by Lufthansa Group airlines, including Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and SunExpress.
During the christening ceremony, Lufthansa Cargo’s CEO, Ashwin Bhat, emphasised the strategic importance of the region, stating: "South America is and will remain a growing market for Lufthansa Cargo. Particularly in the perishables sector, we have built strong relationships with our customers over the past thirty years. With this new cargo aircraft, we reaffirm our commitment to Argentina and all of our local partners, in line with our mission to enable global trade."
Since 2021, Lufthansa Cargo has operated exclusively with Boeing 777F aircraft for long-haul routes, a fleet consisting of twelve owned planes and six managed by AeroLogic, the joint venture with DHL. For European and Middle Eastern routes, the company uses four Airbus A321F aircraft, designed for rapid transport over medium distances. The Lufthansa Group airlines' belly hold capacity completes the service offering.
