The first month of 2025 recorded a decline in freight volumes handled at Italian airports compared to the same period in the previous year. According to data from Assaeroporti, Italian airports handled 87,851 tonnes in January, down three per cent from 2023. Of this total, 82,569 tonnes were air cargo (-3.2%), 1,202 tonnes were surface freight (-2.1%), and 4,080 tonnes were postal shipments (+0.1%). Malpensa remains firmly at the top, processing 54,545 tonnes, although it experienced a drop in line with the national average (-3.8%). Fiumicino, in second place, saw a 0.8 per cent increase, bringing its total to 15,816 tonnes. A trio of airports followed with similar volumes: Bologna handled 3,909 tonnes (-4.5%), Venice 3,866 tonnes (+8%), and Brescia 3,071 tonnes (-1.9%).
