On 21 May 2025, Hylane received three units of the Iveco S-eWay Fuel Cell model at the Ulm production site. These vehicles, powered by hydrogen fuel cells, were handed over to Hylane’s managing director, Sara Schiffer, by Christian Sulser, CEO of Iveco Magirus. The three vehicles, all tractor units, now join a fleet entirely made up of hydrogen-electric trucks. They are part of a small series produced within the European H2Haul project, co-financed by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, which aims to demonstrate the feasibility and reliability of hydrogen-powered heavy transport under real operating conditions.
With full hydrogen tanks, the Iveco S-eWay Fuel Cell vehicles offer a range of up to 800 kilometres and a refuelling time of twenty minutes. Their power system features hydrogen fuel cells delivering more than 200 kW, supported by two electric batteries and an electric motor with a combined output of 400 kW. The tanks can hold up to seventy kilograms of hydrogen at a pressure of 700 bar, enabling high performance for vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 44 tonnes.
The collaboration between Hylane and Iveco goes beyond vehicle supply. The two companies have also reached an agreement on after-sales services, allowing Hylane customers to carry out maintenance and repair operations at selected and certified workshops within the Iveco service network. The project’s technology partner is Bosch, which supplies the fuel cell modules, electric motors, power electronics and hydrogen storage components.
Hylane’s pay-per-use rental model enables companies to adopt zero-emission vehicles without the need for significant upfront investments, making it easier to trial and scale up their use. The company provides customers with CO2 emission certificates, validated by Dekra, which take into account both the vehicle’s operation and the hydrogen production and supply process. Hylane users can include these certificates in their sustainability reporting and communications with clients and stakeholders.
