Another decisive step for the future of the port of La Spezia was taken on 30 May 2025, as the deed of submission signed between the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Orientale (Eastern Ligurian Sea Port System Authority) and the Tarros Group now allows construction work on the third port basin to begin. This operation is part of the implementation of the port master plan and marks a strategic expansion of the Terminal del Golfo, a key hub for the region’s logistical and commercial development.
The document was signed by the extraordinary commissioner of the Port System Authority, engineer Federica Montaresi, and the president and CEO of the Tarros Group, Alberto Musso. With this agreement, Terminal del Golfo has been authorised to occupy, as of 1 June 2025, a new maritime state-owned area of 4,352 square metres, located in front of the area already under concession. This step is essential for initiating construction of the new quay, which forms the first phase of the expansion works.
The deed of submission essentially serves as a provisional authorisation that precedes the formal conclusion of the new concession, but it allows for the immediate occupation of the maritime state-owned property. This measure enables the Tarros Group to avoid wasting valuable time during the preparatory phase and to begin construction activities without delay. The expansion of the Terminal del Golfo will boost the operational capacity of the port of La Spezia, in line with the growing demands of maritime traffic and the environmental sustainability goals outlined in the strategic plan of the Port System Authority.
The significance of the operation was underlined by both signatories. “Today we mark another important moment for the future of the port of La Spezia and the implementation of its port master plan,” said Montaresi. “The synergy between the public and private sectors, which we have placed at the core of all our actions, has once again delivered the expected results. Through ongoing and constructive dialogue with Terminal del Golfo, we have managed to develop a shared project that now enables the Tarros Group to begin the necessary activities. This is a project that will contribute to increasing the volumes handled by the port of La Spezia, with economic and environmental benefits for the entire region.”
The same idea was echoed with satisfaction by Alberto Musso. “The signing of the deed of submission marks a crucial milestone for our company and for the entire port system of La Spezia. It is the culmination of a long and complex journey that today takes concrete form thanks to the joint efforts of many people. This deed represents the actual start of the expansion works at our terminal, a project that will bring development and new opportunities not only for us but for the whole port and regional community.”
