GLS Italy has taken a significant step forward in consolidating its logistics network with the inauguration of the new Verona hub, which also includes the company’s new headquarters. This marks the first time the company has combined both facilities in a single building, representing a novel approach for the firm. Strategically located at the intersection of the A4 Turin-Venice and A22 Modena-Brenner motorways, the new facility is designed to play a crucial role in enhancing GLS Italy's operational efficiency in the area.
With a handling capacity of over 8,000 parcels per hour, the facility spans approximately 33,800 square meters, of which 12,000 are dedicated to offices, service areas, and storage. Notable technical features include 62 loading bays and infrastructure for charging electric vehicles, comprising twenty wall box fingers, six fast chargers for industrial vehicles, and four for electric cars.
According to GLS, unifying the hub and headquarters not only optimizes loading and unloading times but also significantly reduces the travel needed for shipment management. This new approach also allows for an extended operational window for Verona’s drivers, thereby improving the overall efficiency and quality of the service provided. The consolidation of both facilities into a single site also enables more efficient volume management and reduces operational costs, while simultaneously enhancing internal connections within the GLS network, a crucial factor for the widespread and timely distribution of shipments.
“We continue to invest significantly in Italy because this country plays a key role for our company within the broader European context,” stated Klaus Schädle, Group Area Managing Director of GLS. “This investment, in addition to those made in recent years for the opening of new hubs, aims to increase our presence in key areas across the nation to support the Italian business community with services characterized by high-quality standards.”
