GI.MA.Trans is introducing a digital platform called Piano Viaggi, entirely designed and developed internally. This approach allowed developers to create a system tailored to the needs of traffic planning teams. The platform, built on a web-based interface, integrates data from various company departments, including Human Resources, Maintenance, and Traffic, to enhance transport scheduling. The system offers a comprehensive and up-to-date view of driver, vehicle, and resource availability, enabling faster, more accurate, and collaborative planning.
"The console was developed internally by Simone Antonelli, IT Manager, and Mbaye Ciss, a specialist in design and graphical interface," explains Fabio Orbello, Chief Operating Officer at GI.MA.Trans. "The platform's standardised workflow not only simplifies daily tasks for planners but also reduces errors, streamlines processes, and improves oversight."
The system updates data every 30 minutes using an internal SQL database to ensure real-time information accuracy. One of its most innovative features is the Day by Day system, which cross-references tachograph data with company records to verify driver availability according to European regulations on driving and rest times. This function, designed to facilitate communication between Human Resources and the Traffic department, further optimises trip assignment.
The Piano Viaggi project embodies a human-centred design approach, prioritising user involvement. GI.MA.Trans developers worked closely with planners, observing their needs and translating them into practical, innovative solutions. The console is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2024, marking the first step in GI.MA.Trans’s broader digitalisation strategy. The company is already planning new IT projects to further strengthen its competitiveness in the logistics sector.
